U.K. Union Sues Ford Over Visteon Transfer Advice

A lawsuit filed on Friday by Unite, England’s largest labor union, claims Ford Motor Co. gave workers misleading advice when it encouraged them to transfer to Visteon Corp., the car company’s former parts making business.

Several hundred Ford workers moved to Visteon. But some of them later lost their jobs when the supplier company went bankrupt in 2009. Some of the workers also lost a portion of their pensions.

Unite is asking the U.K.’s High Court in London to order Ford to restore benefits by paying £350 million (€408 million) into Visteon’s pension fund. Visteon, which emerged from bankruptcy protection in the U.S. last October, had no immediate comment.
